Podcast Exploring the Arts

Capstone Project 2020-2021

Speaking is arguably the simplest and most natural way to communicate, so it is no surprise that with the rise of entertainment mediums, transferring spoken word is still a powerful one. For my project, I want to explore the way art influences society and the lives of individuals in the simplest form possible: through conversation. I want to have the opportunity to talk to people of diverse backgrounds and see what I can learn and share about art from them, published in the form of a podcast. I will be recording interviews with artists and non-artists alike, planning show notes and episode descriptions, designing cover art, editing the audio, and finally publishing episodes to multiple platforms. I will also learn marketing skills to extend my audience beyond just Arts Scholars and the UMD community, to anyone who is interested in the arts. The impact I intend to have is to teach people about unique art forms, and generate more interest in trying new outlets of creativity. I will lead with a loose interpretation of what is “art” in culture, and promote valuing the arts. I hope to also be promoting art and creativity as a form of looking out for your mental well-being.
