About Me
Biography
Lauren Welch is a sophomore from Eldersburg, MD studying Architecture at the University of Maryland. She is interested in many visual art forms, including photography, painting, and drawing. Her art is often a reflection of natural phenomena and observations, including light and landscapes. She uses a variety of mediums, especially watercolor and colored pencils to show people how she views the world through a unique lens. Her overall goal in art is to express an appreciation for nature and capturing reality with elements of the abstract, while also allowing viewers to form their own impression of scenes. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, she plans to work for a firm dedicated to improving sustainability in construction that allows her to channel creativity into designing buildings.
As a College Park Arts Scholar, Lauren intends to explore her research interests through her culminating Capstone project to be completed in her sophomore year. She is excited to take full advantage of the opportunity to learn about art careers from guest artists. She also looks forward to attending virtual field trips to explore the arts within her new community of College Park, MD. Lauren will also be participating in a voluntary Arts Scholars service-oriented class, where she hopes to expand her knowledge and practice of community service, especially ways in which we can give back with art. Her academic goals include developing a senior thesis that demonstrates mastery in Architecture and graduating prepared to enter the workforce.
